The Summer Nutrition Assistance for Chatham Kids (S.N.A.C.K.) program is back and bigger than last year.

During the summer of 2009, Take and Eat Food Pantry partnered with Chatham OutReach Alliance (CORA), Chatham County Dept. of Social Services, the Pittsboro Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, West Chatham Food Bank and the Hispanic Liaison to provide breakfast and lunch foods to 120 children in Chatham County. The pilot program filled the gap created during the summer break when children don’t have access to the school free and reduced breakfast and lunch program.

In 2010, the program was expanded to feed 800 children! This summer, the children will receive fresh fruit and carrot sticks along with the shelf-stable breakfast and lunch foods. Additionally, Chatham Trades, Inc., Chatham County Schools, Goldston United Methodist Church and the Moncure Community Health Center have joined as partners.

Take and Eat Food Pantry is grateful for the involvement of the Lystra Baptist Church college students who are home for the summer and volunteering their time to assist with distribution of the S.N.A.C.K. packs.
